Choi Soo Young
Choi Soo Young is a South Korean singer, dancer, actress, former member of ROUTE 0 (ルート・ヨン; stylized as ROUTE φ), and current member of GIRLS' GENERATION (소녀시대; also known as SNSD). She graduated from Jinshin Women's High School and later obtained a bachelor's degree in Theater from Chung-Ang University. In December 2001, Asayan held the Japanese-South Korean "Ultra Idol Duo Audition", which was broadcast on TV Tokyo. Out of 15,000 applicants, Marina Takahashi was chosen as the Japanese representative, and Choi Soo Young was chosen as the Korean representative. She made her debut in April 2002 as part of ROUTE 0 with the single "Start", the opening theme song for the series "Hamaraja". However, in July 2003, after releasing three singles, the duo disbanded as Takahashi decided to retire from the entertainment industry. She joined SM Entertainment (SM엔터테인먼트) in 2000 through the SM Open Audition and spent several years as a trainee. She re-debuted in August 2007 as GIRLS' GENERATION's lead dancer, lead rapper and sub-vocalist with the single "Into The New World", part of their self-titled album "Girls' Generation", released in November of that year. They rose to fame in 2009 with the single "Gee", which claimed the top spot on KBS's Music Bank for a record-breaking nine consecutive weeks and was Melon's most popular song of the 2000s decade. Individually, she has participated in various music and acting projects. In the early days, her acting work mostly involved several small roles and guest appearances. She also penned the lyrics for three of SNSD's songs. Then, her acting career took off in September 2012, when she landed her first major acting role in tvN's medical drama "The Third Hospital". She left SM Entertainment in October 2017 and later signed with Saram Entertainment (사람엔터테인먼트).
